Don't Have 'Em, Don't Leave 'Em

Doubts that is. Because as Never A Doubt showed us this year, there is no point in ever having a doubt and he certainly didn't leave one. He pulled the full sweep in Week 13. Having already clinched the season long title, he logged 4 more victories to cement himself in Pick 'em Pool history with an all-time best .708 winning percentage. Those victories allowed him to pull even further ahead of the field in cumulative points and with nobody going 5-0 in Weeks 12 or 13, his 8 total wins over that two week stretch was enough to give him that pot as well.

Thank you all for another successful Pick 'em Pool Season! PLEASE TAKE  A MINUTE TO COMPLETE THE YEAR END SURVEY. This will help guide how we run things in the future.

NEVER A DOUBT CLINCHES 2024 CROWN

Congratulations to our friend Curt (Never a Doubt) on clinching the 2024 NCAA Pick 'em Crown. There's a good chance he takes the sweep of points versus the spread as well, but we'll have to let Week 13 play out before we can make that determination. Never A Doubt has a date with destiny as well. With 1 point (either one win or two ties) in Week 13, he will secure the best single-season winning percentage in league history.  That record dates back to the pool's first year 2021, when Brian (Maize & Brew) wen 41-21-2 for a winning percentage of 65.6%. Last Year Mike (Go Gophers) went 42-22-1 which was good for a 65.4% clip.

We have a two-week sized pot this week. If nobody goes 5-0, the winnings will be split amongst the highest placed teams for Weeks 12+13 COMBINED.

O-H- Cha Ching!

If you have been sleeping or busy before 3pm on Saturdays for the last month you haven't seen much of the Ohio State Buckeyes because Fox has decided they are only allowed to play in the Big Noon games this season. That was enough to piss off the Buckeyes of the Pick 'em Pool though into bringing home a 5-win week and a 3-week long pot. They rode the wave of underdogs this week with Missouri, Nebraska, Wake Forest, and Wisconsin keeping things close while not winning. All in the name of the game. Well done Buckeyes!

Not Great Bob!

We continue to struggle as a group. A slight improvement over Week 9, but we are still well below the .500 mark on a week-to-week basis. At the top of the standings there are 5 teams with a realistic shot at the season-long title. Never A Doubt has a 2.5 game lead over Dog Pound and a 4 game lead over Two Rules of CFB with 3 weeks to go. Rema's Papa and U Dub Dub remain within a longshot's reach of the top at 6.5 GB.

On the plus side of things, our ineptitude has grown the weekly pot to a season-high of $668 for Week 11, so even if you have not been doing well....even if you have forgotten to turn in picks...even if your point total against the spread is lower than a snail's ballsack, you can come out a winner for the season.

Yikes.

Much like a good percentage of the Top 25, we had a terrible week. I blame myself for giving the false confidence and showing our previous Week 9 success. Instead we had the highest count of zero win weeks (including my own) with a whopping 6 nothing burgers! It was by far our worst week of the season as a league with just 48 total wins.

This was music to the ears of those at the top of the standings, Never A Doubt in particular who had another great week with 4 wins and a +83 against the spread.

Dog Attacks Again

It was a big week for cats on the actual college football playing fields with the Panthers of Pitt, Cougars of BYU/Washington State, Nittany Lions of Penn State, and Wildcats of Kansas State all bringing home victories. In our pool though the dogs reign supreme again, as for the second time this season Dog Pound notched a 5-0 week. After opening the season with a perfect 5-0 week Dog Pound is showing exactly what this pool is about...ups and downs.  The net spreads have not been kind to him the last few weeks but that did not dampen his resolve and we should see him vying for the top spots all season long.

ALL-TIME STAT DATABASE FUN FACT OF THE WEEK

As we head into Week 9, have some confidence! Historically Week 9 is the 2nd most successful week league-wide. Week 3 has the highest winning percentage of any week league-wide (Week 10 has the lowest success rate at 44.59%):

Close Calls Mark Week 7

As a league, we had our 2nd lowest win total since Week 1. That didn't stop Dog Pound, F 'Em Bucky, Never A Doubt, and Rema's Papa from coming real close to reaching the Pick 'em 5-win summit. The most agonizing miss has to go to Never A Doubt who lost their last game of the week by just a half point. Making matters worse is that he was a victim of the early week line. Had the closing line been on the board he would have covered by a half point. So goes the world of college football picks and his agony is your gain with the pool for this week doubling to $448.

Irish Eyes Are Smiling

A flat-out incredible week of college football top to bottom. I missed most of it as I was enjoying some golf on Saturday so you can all credit my lack of viewing ability for the fantastic viewing. I'll be hunkered down next Saturday so be ready for a snooze fest of games.

He's not even halfway through his rookie season in the College Football Pick 'em, but that didn't stop Go Irish from notching his first 5-0 winning week of his career. No doubt he was sweating out the Boise State-Hawaii results. As we all know a win is a win is a win. Well done sir!

Week 5 Piledrive

This week was one to be remembered for sure. Upsets abound, fields beings stormed, and goalposts being carried down city streets. As college football fans, I encourage you to soak this one in because I don't know how many more we will see. Not that upsets won't happen or that college kids won't storm a field from time-to-time, but rather that these weekends will no longer mean as much to the landscape of the postseason. The Athletic's headline on Sunday morning was "Does this stunning upset even matter?" And the fact is, probably not. I will embrace the changes, but I don't have to like them. Now kindly get off my lawn.

Congrats to Billy Kehl on his second career 5 win week! This 5-win performance has also put Billy into the top spot for all-time Pick 'em Pool wins at 121.

CFB Is Already Drunk

Before we get into the Week 2 recap, a couple of quick notes. The API I used changed some of the team names which caused a temporary glitch in how games were showing up (i.e. Miami (FL) was changed to just Miami). Thank you for bringing those to my attention. I've got a good paper trail on all picks that come in so we can always go back to clean anything up. Please keep an eye on things these first few weeks as mistakes can happen, but I do my best to double check everything before I post.

Another reminder to check the Weekly Games list for the lines. If it's not listed there the game does not exist in terms of this pool and will count as a loss and a -10 point result vs the spread.

Speaking of against the spread, the first two weeks have delivered on some absolutely bananas ATS results. This is why we all love college football. Last year there were 5 games all season with +40 ATS or better, we already have two this season. I should have some time later this week to compile some historical data so stay tuned.

QUICK NOTE: Check the Weekly Lines List. IF A GAME IS NOT LISTED ON MY PAGE IT IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR SELECTION. If you would like to pick a game that is not listed, please reach out via email or text and send me where you saw the line.

Ok ok ok.... fine. I'll press on. On the actual field the Huskies of NIU kicked off the Day of the Dogs with a win in South Bend, led by a bunch of veteran O-linemen from the great state of Wisconsin. Good on them. They earned it.

Speaking of earning it, The Dog Pound came out as the first 5-0 winner of 2024! Jane From Accounting and Never A Doubt also had strong 4-1 starts this week. Dog Pound and Jane both were more than +80 ATS. That may be some kind of record. I've been thinking about getting a historical database together for this pool. If/when that ever happens I'll fill you all in on that nugget. I'm sure you'll be on the edge of your seats until then.

GOPHERS GET THE SWEEP

First off, congrats to Seventeen Eights for his 5-0 week to close out the year. Despite all of our best efforts Go Gophers was not to be denied this year taking 1st in the overall standings and the best total versus the spread. A 65% winning percentage is unreal and I hope that Go Gophers took Vegas/Oneida/Poto to task as much as he took us to the cleaners.

Another year is in the books and I cannot thank you all enough for your participation. I will continue to work on enhancements to the site and scoreboard going into next season. Thank you for your feedback. On the midseason survey we had a 100% response rate for intent to participate next season. We will look to add more folks as well. SKI-U-MAH

Go Gophers got his 2nd 5-0 week of the season, and further widened himself from the pack. His .700 winning percentage for the year only makes me hope that he's got a betting service on the side because he should be raking in some serious dough. For that reason, we feature a Gopher in today's headline, and it was easy to pick the one from the coach in 1884, not the one in 2023 because I think we can all objectively agree that he's a giant tool.

FUN FACTS!

As a league we choose a favorite 60% of the time.

When picking a favorite the total winning percentage is 0.562 (368-285-19). For underdogs it's 0.455 (191-230-12).

127 NCAA teams have been selected so far this season. 8 teams have been selected at least twice and have not seen a loss vs the spread (Arizona (4-0), Arkansas St (2-0), Bowling Green (2-0), Georgia Southern (2-0), James Madison (4-0), Nevada (2-0), Northwestern (3-0), Stanford (3-0).

10 teams have been selected at least twice and have not seen a win vs the spread (Akron (0-2), Army (0-6), Hawai'i (0-6) Houston (0-7), MTSU (0-4), Sam Houston State (0-2), Temple (0-3) Vanderbilt (0-2). Then there's these two.........

USC has been selected FIFTEEN times and are 0-15 ATS. Illinois has been selected EIGHTEEN times and is a giant donut hole for 18! That's right 0-18 vs the spread.

The league was under .500 this week, but that didn't stop Seventeen Eights from going 5-0 and taking home a solo win. Go Gophers was saddled with the painful 4-0-1 moniker this week. Rollover City

It seems that as a group we are best on odd numbered weeks. Week 4 saw the group finish below .500 (.476) for the second time this year with a 58% success rate in weeks 1 & 3. So we're poised for a bounce back next week! Week 4 also had the lowest number of 4 game winners (1 - Super Mariota Brothers). Take from that what you will.

Week 4's Most Popular Selections

Most Popular Selections For The Season

We finally have the database of sortable results from each week.

Go Home College Football - You're Drunk

The Kansas Jayhawks are 3-0 (and tied the biggest win of the season against the spread at +28 points), Penn State scored 41 points, Iowa scored 27 points, Bo Nix looked like a competent QB, Washington beat a ranked opponent, and G5 teams continue to upset P5 teams.... In the words of the great Vince Lombardi, "what the hell's going on out there?!"

Thanks to the Eagles of Eastern Michigan the Week 4 pot will grow to $700. I can only assume that you were all glued to your televisions into the early hours of Sunday morning watching Herm Edwards final minutes as coach of the Sun Devils. This also gave us the largest spread loss (-29) of any game this season (Tied w/ Oregon vs. Georgia Week 1).

Week 3's Most Popular Choices

Most Popular Selections for the Season

Stun Belt Saturday

We're two weeks in and ho-lee sh*t college football is giving us everything we could ever ask for! The Sun Belt may be the 3rd best conference in America after App State took down Texas A&M and Georgia Southern put the final nail in Scott Frost's coffin. There were no other Sun Belt games versus ranked opponents. Certainly not in the state of Indiana.

Texas also gave Alabama all they could handle, Kentucky went into The Swamp and took the wind right out of their sails, and Tennessee went into overtime and stole the momentum from Pittsburgh.

With all that being said, the Week 3 slate looks pretty boring so let's hope you all caught a lot of football the last two weeks and/or that I'm wrong and this week is more exciting that I think it will be.

Another week with a couple of close calls, but no 5-0 winner which takes next week's pot up to $525. Joe remains out front with his 8-1-1 start, just ahead of the defending champion Harbaugh's Khaki Club. Speaking of the Khaki Club, he had a HUGE week, racking up 55.5 points against the spread and jumping to first place in that category and is one of only 5 players in plus territory. Lots of football to be played and if the first two weeks are any indication there can be quite a bit of volatility week-to-week.

Week 2's most popular selections:

WEEK 1 DELIVERS!

What an incredible first weekend of games! We had several close calls to 5-0 this week. The most dramatic of which was the defending champion Harbaugh's Khaki Club being a blocked PAT from OT on LSU  -3. The best picker this week was Joe McCann at 4-0-1, unfortunately for him the Illini's choke job dashed his winning hopes pretty early in the weekend.

The points against the spread totals are new this year so we are not really sure what to expect. BoomerXCS rode USC and BYU to the top of those standings, while The Dog Pound went 'small ball' with Old Dominion, Portland State, and East Carolina into 2nd place.

Week 1's most popular selections:

Starting next week, we will have a sortable database of picks for everyone to look at similar to last season.
